Tapah UiTM campus ready for enrolment

The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Tapah Campus is ready to receive students for early next year’s enrolment. The completed first phase of development built on a 26 acre site could accommodate about 500 students when fully operational.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir made a visit to the campus to see for himself the latest development at the site, today.

He and his entourage were briefed by Perak UiTM director Prof. Ir. Dr. Zainab Mohamed.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Zainab explained that the completed first phase is ready to take in 100 Pre- Science and 343 Diploma in Acturial Science students for the campus first intake early next year.

To be developed in two phases, land clearing works on the 79 acre second stage had just begun.

When fully completed in 2013, the campus will have some 9,000 students in the applied science, accountancy, computer science and mathematics field. Total cost of the project is about RM284 million.

Dr. Zambry commented that the campus could be the catalyst for the development and growth of the new Tapah Road township to be launched the same day nearby as the university has a large number of students studying there.

Also present at the briefing were State Secretary, Datuk Deri Dr. Abdul Rahman Hashim, Air Kuning Assemblyman, Datuk Shamsudin Abu Hassan, UiTM Student and Alumni Affairs Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Abdullah Mohamad Said, and the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli.
