Architect, two others charged with trying to support IS

SEPANG: An architect and two other men were charged at the Sessions Court today with trying to support terrorist group Islamic State(IS) by taking a flight to Turkey.

Architect Mohd Syafrein Rasid, 26, technician Mohamad Yusoffe Ishak, 26 and? trader Mohd Rosmadi Che Daud, 42, were accused of trying to become members of IS by boarding a flight from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA) to Istanbul, Turkey.

They were also charged with an alternative count of trying to benefit IS by taking the same flight.

They allegedly committed the offences at the Immigration Counter at the Departure Hall of KLIA, Sepang, Selangor, around 8.55am on Sept 25.

Syafrein, Yusoffe, and Rosmadi indicated they understood the charges read to them before judge Aizatul Akmal Maharani. No plea was recorded.

They may be jailed 15 years or fined if convicted under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

Any of their items used to commit the offence may also be confiscated if they are found guilty.

Judge Aizatul Akmal Maharani did not grant bail and? fixed Nov 20 for mention to transfer the case to the High Court.

Deputy public prosecutor Shukor Abu Bakar prosecuted while the three? accused were unrepresented.
