PM denounces Pakistan attack

KUALA LUMPUR: PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has offered his condolences to the government of Pakistan and families of the victims of the attack on an army school in Peshawar.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a statement yesterday, said Najib had written to his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, to convey his message.

Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman has also sent his condolences to the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Sartaj Aziz.

“Malaysia strongly condemns the attack that resulted in the loss of 141 lives, including 132 school children, and wounded dozens of students and educators.

“The senseless killing and attack on school children by the perpetrators, for whatever reason, is uncalled for and inhumane in nature,” the statement said.

It said Malaysia, as a peace-loving country, was against any kind of violent attacks in the region.

“We are ready to support Pakistan in its peace-building efforts as Malaysia continues to promote moderation and mediation.”

In one of Pakistan’s deadliest terror attacks in recent times, Taliban gunmen last Tuesday ambushed the military-run Army School and Degree College, attended by more than 500 students, in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.

The terrorists entered the school wearing security uniforms. Many students were children of army personnel.

A day after the massacre, Nawaz lifted a moratorium on the death penalty for terrorism cases.
