Penang govt sought judicial review to declare PPS legal

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government today sought a judicial review to declare that the Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) is legal.

It handed the application at the registrar counter to seek a court-sanctioned declaration that PPS is a legal organsation formed under the DAP-led administration.

The officials comprised Chief MInister Lim Guan Eng and several state executive councillors.

Lim maintained that the PPS had been a legal organisation under the purview of the state government and vowed to restore the pride of the outlawed unit.

He said the PPS had intended to continue carrying on its surveillance in helping police to keep the criminal activties at bay, adding the state government would not bow to lies which described PPS as a bunch of gangsters.

“Let the court decide the legality of PPS, ” Lim said.
