Taiwanese tourist crushed to death in bus mishap near Petaling Jaya hotel

PETALING JAYA: A tourist from Taiwan was killed after a tour bus rolled backwards and crushed him.

The 8.20am Saturday incident near the hotel here occurred as the tourist, identified as Teng Yun-Chi, 56, was walking to his bus outside the lobby.

However, according to witnesses, the bus in front of Teng, who was using a walking stick, started rolling backwards down the slight slope.

“Everyone got out of the way except the man, who couldn’t move away in time,” said a witness.

It is believed that Teng was travelling with his family in a tour group from Taiwan.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Azmi Abu Kassim said the 65-year-old bus driver, who has 35 years of experience, has been arrested for negligence.

“We believe that the accident occurred due the driver not pulling the handbrake properly,” he said when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
