Wildlife dept to capture killer crocodile in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: The Wildlife Department will set traps to catch the crocodile which killed a plantation worker in Sungai Kinabatangan (near Kampung Sangau) on March 29.

Kinabatangan Wildlife officer Jimli Perijin said two wire traps measuring 2.74 metres each would be set at suitable sites shortly in the river.

He said monitoring by Wildlife Department officers found three crocodiles measuring three metres by the river bank near the incident location.

“It is difficult to identify the killer crocodile as the body of the victim was found complete with his limbs,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

In the incident, a 40-year-old oil palm plantation worker was killed by a crocodile when fishing with three friends.

Jimli said the body of the oil palm plantation worker was found floating 20 metres from where he was attacked.

There were four cases of crocodile attacks reported in Sungai Kinabatangan since 2001 with two bodies of victims found while the other two remained missing. –BERNAMA
