2.6 magnitude quake hits Ranau

KUALA LUMPUR: A weak earthquake, measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale, struck Ranau in Sabah at 9.26 am today, according to the Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was six degrees North latitude and 116.6 degrees East longitude, 12 kilometres northwest of Ranau town.

Tremors were felt in the town, it added. An earthquake of 5.9 magnitude hit the Ranau area on June 5, claiming 18 lives.

The dead were climbers of Mount Kinabalu and mountain guides.–BERNAMA
