300 SPAD enforcement officers for Raya operation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will mobilise 300 enforcement officers for its Hari Raya Aidilfitri operation nationwide.

Its enforcement head Datuk Che Hasni Che Ahmad said the two-week operation would focus on main bus terminals.

“We will keep tabs on express bus operators to ensure that they are in possession of a valid licence and permit and selling tickets at the proper fare,” he said.

He said enforcement officers would be observing taxi drivers who do not use the meter or charge excessively, and ticket touts.

Che Hasni said SPAD enforcement officers would be working round the clock for three days before and four days after Aidilfitri to ensure a smooth journey for the homebound public.

Meanwhile, he said SPAD conducted 771 operations on express buses nationwide, between June 2011 and last May. He said action was taken against express bus operators for 6,913 traffic and permit offences.

SPAD also took action against 8,106 taxi drivers; 8,406 lorry drivers; 194 ticket touts; and 347 ‘pirate’ taxis, he added.

Che Hasni advised express bus passengers to immediately report any incident of speeding by the drivers, to SPAD.

“Passengers must also make sure that their tickets are valid and printed electronically with the relevant information such as bus company, destination, ticket price, seat number and departure time printed on it,” he said.– BERNAMA
