JOHOR BARU: A 27-year-old man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today to trafficking a girl, now 18, and forcing her to work as a labourer from January 15, 2011 to May 17, 2013 in Skudai here.

Jasrin Yakin, a Dusun, was charged with exploiting the victim, who is from his village in Sabah, at No. 15, Jalan Jayamas 9, Taman Jaya Mas.

He was charged with committing the offence with a woman who is still at large.

The victim was about 13 when she was brought from Sabah to Johor Baru to work for several different employers here as a maid.

She was not paid salary and allegedly had to endure physical abuse by the couple.

Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz fixed the case for mention on July 28.

The accused, who was charged under Section 14 of the Anti Trafficking in Persons Act 2007, was denied bail.
