SAJ technician jailed, fined for accepting bribe

JOHOR BARU: An SAJ Holdings Sdn Bhd technician was jailed one day and fined RM10,000 by the sessions court for accepting a RM2,000 bribe as inducement to approve piping tests for a project in Sedili, Kota Tinggi last year.

Umi Hazren Ahmad, 35, was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Act 2009 during proceedings in front of sessions court judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz here today.

She was charged for accepting RM2,000 from Muhammad Yusri Jamalludin as inducement to approve and carry out piping tests for the Kampung Tuan Seh housing development project in Sedili, Kota Tinggi.

She committed the offence at 5.30pm on April 3, 2014 in front of the Pusat Bahasa Bestari Maju, Kota Tinggi. MACC deputy public prosecutor Malek Ridzuan prosecuted, while Umi Hazren was unrepresented.

Those convicted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 could face up to 20 years jail and a RM10,000 fine or five times the amount of bribe, whichever is higher.
