LEE Chong Wei failed to defend his title at the Japan Open after crashing out in the second round today.
The 33-year-old, was shown the exit by China’s Lin Dan who wrapped up the match 21-17, 21-10 in just 46 minutes.
The China five-time world champion will take on compatriot Tian Houwei in the quarter-finals tomorrow. Houwei had earlier upset top seed and world No 1 Chen Long 21-16, 21-17.
Mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying also crashed out in the second round. The Malaysian No 1 lost 21-15, 21-18 to China’s Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei.
Men’s doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong will be Malaysia’s sole representative in the last eight tomorrow.
The nation’s top duo defeated Denmark’s Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 15-21, 22-20, 21-16. V Shem-Wee Kiong, take on Indonesia’s Angga Pratama-Ricky Karanda Suwardi next.
