Carpenter survives three gunshots by unknown rider

BUTTERWORTH: A 23-year-old man’s outing to buy a sugarcane drink turned out to be the most terrifying ride of his life after a lone gunman shot him thrice.

In the 5.20pm incident, the carpenter, known only as ‘Ah Hee’, had gone to Permatang Pauh town to quench his thirst.

As he was leaving on his motorcycle near Kampung Bukit Merah, a motorcyclist came up to him and fired a shot right on his neck.

Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said the victim then sped up in an attempt to escape from him.

“The gunman then came abreast and shot him another time. This time the bullet went through his right shoulder.

“Then, another shot was fired, but it missed the victim,” he said when met on the scene of the crime here today.

Zakaria said the victim then managed to escape to safety and his colleagues rushed him to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

“He is reported to be stable. As of now, we cannot establish any motive behind the incident. We are still investigating,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
