Nur Jazlan issues stern warning to Ali Tinju and Jamal

KUALA LUMPUR: “Don’t challenge enforcement agencies,” the Deputy Home Minister warned Mohd Ali Baharom, better known as Ali Tinju, and Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos.

In a clear message to the rabble-rousers, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pic) said that the authorities, particularly the Home Ministry and the police, should not be challenged.

“His (Ali) actions will only disrupt public order.

“It will not benefit the country or the rakyat,” he told a press conference after witnessing the flag-off ceremony for the official car to be used for the General Police and Special Equipment Exhibition and Conference Asia (GPEC) yesterday.

Nur Jazlan was commenting on Ali Tinju’s “threat” to hold a rally in Malacca tomorrow.

Ali has since called off the rally.

“Nothing good will come out of certain parties trying to take advantage of a tense situation to promote themselves. Enough is enough,” said Nur Jazlan.

“There is no need for anyone or any party to worsen any situation or disrupt public order,” he said, adding that the police were ready for any outcome.

Nur Jazlan also issued a similar warning to Jamal, who is planning a protest against the Selangor government in Ampang on Oct 18.

“It is a serious problem when everybody starts to have rallies all over the place and disrupt the peace,” said Nur Jazlan.

“We will leave it to the police to take the necessary action,” he said of the protest.

In Malacca, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said he had received criticism for hitting out against Ali Tinju “but only from a handful of people”.

“I received a few SMSes on my phone with derogatory remarks,” he said.

“But most people, including the state Umno Youth, the Malaysian Youth Federation and various NGOs, have encouraged me and given me their strong backing to reject racism.

“I am not going to be cowed by a few people who seem unhappy by my statement condemning any attempt to disrupt the pace and harmony in Malacca,” Idris said when chairing the weekly state exco meeting.

Malacca police chief Deptuy Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye said officers would patrol Taman Melaka Raya and other Unesco Heritage sites despite the rally being called off.

Five reports had been lodged against Ali Tinju, he added.
