Msia to share deradicalisation of extremists’ methods with other Commonwealth states

VALETTA, Malta: Malaysia’s success rate in the deradicalisation of extremists stands at 95 per cent, and the country is willing to share this experience with Commonwealth nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the small percentage of extremists who have yet to be rehabilitated were those obsessed with ideologies of certain groups.

“Commonwealth countries carrying out rehabilitation of extremists will be able to hear from Malaysia on this matter. This is because our success rate in deradicalisation is at 95 per cent.

“The remaining 5 per cent will face further action.

These are people who are overly obsessed about (the ideologies of) certain groups,” said Zahid after attending the second day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), here.

He said Malaysia has also extended an invitation to Commonwealth nations handling extremism to join in the deradicalisation conference hosted by Malaysia from Jan 25-26.

Zahid said besides presenting Malaysia’s efforts in its fight against extremism at CHOGM, he said he had shared with the Commonwealth leaders about Malaysia’s experience in effectively handling the issue of migrants.-nst
