KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has a lot on his plate, especially with the state polls expected be held in the next two months.

Despite his busy schedule, which includes travelling to divisions in the state, Adenan would try as much as possible to eat home-cooked meals prepared by his wife, Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, at his office in Petra Jaya near here.

“My wife sends food to the office nearly every day for my lunch.

“I love her cooking.

“Please don’t tell her that that was the reason I married her,” he quipped during the interview with the New Sunday Times at his Wisma Bapa Malaysia office.

Adenan, who frequents eateries and wet markets in the city with his wife, said his favourite dish was terubok masin (salted Chinese herring), mee kolo and laksa Sarawak.

“Apart from the colourful layered cake, Kuching and most parts of the state are also famous for these dishes. “To stay healthy, I stay away from eating meat.

I include only fish and vegetables in my diet,” said Adenan. He added that he felt better after he quit smoking about four years ago.

“I am not exactly 23 years old.

I think, for a man of 72, I am grateful to God that I can wake up in the morning and be active the whole day.

I sleep early.

“Every day, I wake up early to perform Subuh prayers, take my bath and enjoy a nap after that.

“Then, I will take a walk around the house around 7am.

“After breakfast, I will take a shower before going to work. “I love reading books and surfing the Internet before going to bed,” said Adenan.

The affable chief minister, who enjoys singing, said he tries as much as possible to make time for himself.

“As they say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. “You are no use to anybody but only a burden if you are sick.

That is why I try to make time for myself.” Adenan said he would consider writing a book, which would be published posthumously.

“The book must be revealing. When I am dead, no one can sue me,” he quipped.-NST
