Indira’s ex-hubby missing

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are seeking the public’s help to find Muslim convert Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, while the process of resolving unilateral conversions of minors including the case of M. Indira Gandhi is still being looked into by an informal Cabinet committee.

“It’s not a formal Cabinet committee but we are looking into it because some of the measures to be taken involve consultation with all the rulers, so that takes a bit of time,” said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during a press conference after the national Labour Day celebrations at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Indira’s ex-husband, Muhammad Riduan converted their three children without her consent.

Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said the draft on amendments to prevent unilateral conversion was ready but consultations on Islamic matters were still ongoing with the involvement of her Cabinet colleague Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

In Ipoh, OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said police had checked all known addresses of Muhammad Riduan here but could not find him.

He said his men had also asked his family and friends of his whereabouts but to no avail.

“We have asked but nobody knows. Even before this (Federal Court decision), we tried to find him but couldn’t,” he said.

Last Friday, the Federal Court ordered the Inspector-General of Police to execute a warrant of arrest against Muhammad Riduan for disobeying an order to return his daughter to his former wife, kindergarten teacher Indira Gandhi.

Muhammad Riduan, formerly K. Pathmanathan, had failed to return their youngest child, Prasana Diksa to Indira Gandhi.

ACP Sum also said Muhammad Riduan had stopped engaging his lawyer in Ipoh and got a new lawyer since the case went to Federal Court.

“We don’t have the contact of his new lawyer.

“Indira Gandhi’s lawyer M. Kulasegaran may know who the lawyer is and I hope he could pass the number to the respective state police contingents,” he said.

“My jurisdiction is only in Ipoh,” he added.-mstar
