Liow: Govt wants half a million commuters on public transport daily

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is pushing for a daily ridership of 500,000 on land public transportation this year, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Currently, the number of people taking public transport is about 470,000 per day.

Liow said efforts such as increasing the frequency of commuter and light rail transit (LRT) trains were being made to achieve this target.

“We will make sure that stage buses and other transportation modes are well connected to take the public from the train stations to their destinations,” he told reporters at the Labour Day celebration held by UNI-Malaysia Labour Centre here Sunday morning.

Liow also urged employers to work closely with workers’ unions to address any issues raised.

“I know some employers are having a hard time with their workers, and the union can play a part to arrange a tripartite discussion to resolve matters,” he said.-thestar
