KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcycle mechanic claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court today to breaking into an elderly woman’s house to steal RM4,000 in cash from her.

Muhammad Fareez Abdullah, 25, was accused of smashing a window grill to enter the house and run off with the money which belonged to Mehender Kaur, 78.

Fareez was accused of committing the offence at Mehender’s house at Jalan Air Dusun, Setapak here, between 4pm and 5.30pm on Feb 29.

She lodged a police report on the same day. Fareez was nabbed on April 30 and produced before the court today to be charged.

He may be jailed up to five years and fined if convicted under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan granted RM7,000 bail with one surety and set June 6 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Farith Muhammad Faizal prosecuted while counsel Mohd Faizi Che Abu appeared for Fareez.-nst
