Don’t ‘give face’ to those claiming to be terrorists, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Do not freely accord recognition to those taking responsibility for terrorist attacks, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Khalid was commenting on claims that a Malaysian man, who claimed to be a member of the Islamic State, had claimed responsibility for a grenade attack on a nightclub in Puchong, which left eight people injured.

“The more we give exposure to them, the happier they are. Let us investigate.

“We are looking at all angles including terrorism elements,” he told a press conference after presenting helmets to traffic police officers at Celcom Axiata in Jalan Semarak here today.

The man, Abu Hamzah Al Fateh, in his Facebook account, claimed that the attack by two militants had targeted ‘infidels’ and was a warning for Muslims to stay away from places of sin.

Asked if the social media account was a genuine one, Khalid said there were so many untruths being shared on social media.

“You judge for yourself. So many untruths are disseminated on social media,” he said. -nst
