Despatch rider charged with supporting terror act

KUALA LUMPUR: A despatch rider was hauled to the Magistrate’s Court here today over his alleged support of a terrorist act involving explosives.

Fazar Nor Md Reduan, clad in a green T-shirt, was calm when he indicated understanding to the charge read out to him by an interpreter.

No plea was recorded. Fazar, 32, was accused of intentionally supporting the terror act, via messaging application Telegram on his smartphone, in order to threaten the people of Malaysia.

Fazar, who is single, allegedly committed the offence at No. 107, Block 11, AU 3/1, Ampang Ulu Kelang here, between April and June 28.

He was also charged with a second offence of owning items linked to terror group Islamic State(IS).

He purportedly possessed the items at No 2/23A, Taman Danau Kota, off Jalan Genting Klang here, at 1.20pm, on June 28.

Fazar also indicated he understood the second charge read out to him. No plea was recorded.

If convicted, he faces lifetime imprisonment for the first charge and a maximum seven years’ jail for the second charge.

If found guilty of both offences, he may also be fined and have any items used to commit the offences seized.

Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin did not grant bail and fixed Sept 28 for mention of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Syazwani Mohamad Sobry prosecuted while Fazar was unrepresented. -nst
