MCA: Lim should ask himself why PKR won’t back him

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should evaluate himself following PKR’s stand that it was still not convinced over the purpose of having snap elections in Penang.

Penang MCA deputy chairman Tan Teik Cheng said Lim should ask himself why PKR was not supporting him. He claimed that the snub proved that Lim’s action was only for his own benefit and interest but was not for the benefit of the people of Penang.

Penang Umno chief Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman claimed Lim had lost the confidence of the state legislative assembly following PKR’s decision on the snap polls.

He said PKR’s decision meant that the party’s 10 assemblymen in Penang had yet to agree to dissolve the state assembly.

“PAS, with a lawmaker, also disagreed and 10 Barisan Nasional elected representatives also do not support the proposal. Hence, we can consider that only the 19 DAP representatives support the idea.

“Based on the calculation, there are 21 out of 40 assemblymen who don’t agree while only 19 are supporting,” Zainal said in a statement yesterday.

He said Lim’s attempt to drag the people into his personal matters had been refused, adding that the Chief Minister should respond with integrity and pride by letting go of his position.-thestar
