PUTRAJAYA: Those named in the United States Justice Department civil complaint related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) must take responsibility for their actions and clear their names.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also reiterated that the government would continue to extend its fullest cooperation in the investigation and ensure no public funds had been abused in connection to 1MDB.

“The government wants those named to take responsibility and clear their names,” he said. He also urged the people not to be easily carried away by the 1MDB issue and should let the due process of law take its course. The prime minister said the truth would prevail soon.

Najib was speaking at the Prime Minister’s Special Haj programme 2016 event, where he presented letters of offer to perform the haj to 1,100 imams, village security and development committee heads as well as village heads.

To date, 4,611 people have been selected to perform the haj under the programme since its inception in 2011.

Najib, meanwhile, said 1MDB had played a big social role in aiding the people, including by sponsoring imams, village security and development committee heads as well as village heads to perform their haj.
