PKR yet to be convinced of DAP’s call for snap polls

PETALING JAYA: The PKR central committee, after deliberating in a three-hour special meeting ton, announced that they have yet to be convinced by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s proposal for snap state elections.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, however said the party was keen to extend its support for DAP as a coalition partner and will continue discussions over the matter.

“Following extensive deliberation, including taking into account the views of civil societies, the meeting unanimously decided that PKR is still not convinced by the proposal,” said Wan Azizah.

She said PKR would be sending a high-ranking delegation to Penang in due course to explain their decision to the DAP leadership.

Lim had proposed for snap elections following growing calls for him to step down after he was faced with two charges of abuse of power and corruption at last month over the alleged approval of a rezoning application to convert agricultural land to residential, and the purchase of his RM2.8 million bungalow at below market value.-nst
