Setapak shooting: Gunmen are still in the country, say police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe the four men involved in the deadly shooting of a 43-year-old man at an intersection near Setapak Central here yesterday, are still in the country.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said based on the investigation, police have reason to believe the gunmen and their accomplices have not yet fled the country.

“They have nowhere to go. We will hunt them down,” he told reporters after opening the first KPD Mart at Unikop College in Batu Caves here.

Khalid said police have taken, and will continue to take additional measures to ensure that shooting cases do not continue to be on the rise.

“We have taken several additional measures but our borders are wide and porous,” he said.

On claims that Malaysia has become a ‘cowboy town’, Khalid said each shooting case is not random and has specific motives.

“There is a reason behind every shooting case, so let us investigate,” he said.

In yesterday’s incident, a man was shot dead in his car by two gunmen at a traffic light junction at Jalan Genting Klang.

One of the men went to the driver’s side window and fired off several shots while the other gunman opened fire towards the front passenger side.

The victim, a father of three, was killed at the scene.-nst
