Ku Nan questions Dr M’s motive over Bangsa Johor issue

PUTRAJAYA: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has questioned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s motive in criticising the Bangsa Johor concept.

He said it was inappropriate for the former prime minister to make such a statement especially during the month of Merdeka.

“Dr Mahathir is in his own world. As a former prime minister and Umno president, he should have not made a statement that could disunite people.

“He will do whatever he can to topple the current government.

“I don’t understand him. When he was the leader, he had asked us to follow his way, but now when things are not on his side, he says otherwise,” he said after officiating the a cycling programme in Putrajaya, today.

Dr Mahathir, asked for his opinion about the Bangsa Johor concept at the 20th Perdana Dialogue Series at the Perdana Leadership Foundation recently, had said that unity among Malaysians could slide if the people practised too much parochialism.

Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had expressed his displeasure over the remarks made by Dr Mahathir.

Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan, who is also the Federal Territory Minister, urged all building owners in the federal capital to display Jalur Gemilang in view of the National Day.

He said it was important to instill the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians.

About 2,500 people from all walks of life took part in Fun Ride Patriotic cycling programme today.-nst
