Miri murder suspect finally caught after months of hiding

KUCHING: A murder suspect thought he could evade arrest by hiding 1,000 kilometres away from the scene of the crime. That, however, failed when he was finally caught by police today.

The 28-year-old man is wanted by police over the murder of his girlfriend in Miri on June 6. Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the suspect is believed to have been high on drugs when he was arrested in Kampung Semariang, Petra Jaya near here at 5.30am.

“The suspect went into hiding immediately after the victim was killed. Police had made several attempts to nab the suspect over the months but luck was always on his side.

“He managed to escape capture and went deep into hiding. His good fortune eventually ran out when the police managed to track him down,” said Dev.

Dev said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim, who was 25, had an heated argument before the latter was assaulted. The victim was rushed to the Miri General Hospital by her parents upon returning home in Tudan.

The woman, who had sustained injuries to her body, died shortly after she arrived at the hospital.

Dev said a post mortem examination conducted on the victim showed that the woman died of head injuries due to blunt force trauma.
