MyWatch chairman in the dock again, this time for cheating charge

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan today claimed trial at the magistrate’s court here to a cheating charge.

Sanjeevan, 31, is accused of having cheated company director S. Sivam Subramanian, 53, by inducing him into believing that he (Sanjeevan) has law and business degrees from the Northumbria and Camden Universities in order to appoint him as a business consultant at Solid Transactions Sdn Bhd and to part with RM95,000 .

He also claimed trial to an alternative charge of cheating S. Sivam Subramanian into believing that he has two law and business degrees from the Northumbria and Camden Universities, in order to appoint him as a business consultant at Solid Transactions Sdn Bhd.

The alleged offences were committed at the Cheras Leisure Mall in Taman Segar, Cheras near here on June 1, 2013. Deputy public prosecutor Noor Jazilah Mohd Yushaa requested a RM20,000 bail in one surety.

Counsel Gobind Singh Deo said the bail requested by the prosecution was high and bail is given to ensure court attendance.

“My client was arrested yesterday in Medan Damansara, kept overnight in detention without food or medication until he was charged today.

“Why this action against him and why this treatment? There was no need for such treatment because the police know where he is and he is legally represented.”

Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail fixed bail at RM5,000 in one surety and set Oct 26 for case mention. Last week, Sanjeevan was charged with extortion in the Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court.

The businessman has also been charged in the Seremban and Temerloh lower courts last month for extortion and hiring an illegal worker.
