Dying cancer patient Muhammad Danish only wants Lego

PETALING JAYA: A group of caring Malaysians are calling for gifts of Lego for 11-year-old cancer patient Muhammad Danish Maarif (pic) through a project called “Legoland For Danish”.

“His mother told me that Muhammad Danish loves Lego and really wants to go to Legoland, but on Friday, the doctors declared that there was nothing more that they could do for him as the cancer had spread everywhere,” said Wan Shahriza Wan Ab Rahman, who is one of the project’s coordinators.

“Chemotherapy was stopped and the scheduled operation was cancelled.

“Muhammad Danish is currently quite weak and he was allowed to go home to rest,” said Wan Shahriza.

She added in a Facebook post that Muhammad Danish was too weak to travel to Legoland in Johor, which got her speaking to “Legoland For Danish” co-organisers MaryAnne Isaac Ethan and Maz Waheed.

“I told them that if we cannot take him to Legoland, let’s bring Legoland to him,” said Wan Shahriza.

A Facebook post was also shared by Ethan, who described Muhammad Danish as being a very strong-willed boy through his battle against osteosarcoma (bone cancer).

“He has the most generous smile in spite of his very difficult ordeal.

“If you think life is tough, Muhammad Danish has had one of his legs amputated, one of his lungs removed and part of his other lung scrapped and now he has been sent home as there is nothing more that the doctors can do for him medically.

“He loves Lego and visiting Legoland is one of his dreams – but he is not fit to travel,” said Ethan in her Facebook post.

Ethan added that as Muhammad Danish was in a critically weak condition, the cut-off date for the “Legoland For Danish” project is on Thursday (Sept 29).

She urged concerned Malaysians to bring Legoland to Muhammad Danish.

“Let us surround him with his favourite, Lego.

“If you have any Lego that you can share to cheer him up, let us all come together to surround this young man with all that he loves,” said Ethan, who is also part of the Wishing Star initiative aimed at fulfilling the wishes of terminally-ill children.

All Lego for Muhammad Danish can be sent to the following address: Wan Shahriza Wan Ab Rahman, Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Kuantan, Jalan Tok Sira 25050 Kuantan.
