Man charged with insulting IGP in Facebook postings

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man today claimed trial in the Sessions Cyber Court for insulting Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in his Facebook postings.

Rosmi Mohamed Noor, 40, is alleged to have committed the offence at Lot 708, Kg Teluk Bahru 2, Lundang 15150, Kota Baru, at 10.10am on Sept 22.

He was charged with improper use of network facilities or network service under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) which carries a fine of not more than RM50,000 or a jail term of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Faridah Nurdinie Bahrum requested that the court impose a bail which would ensure court presence for the accused.

She also said under Section 233 of the act, the maximum bail which can be imposed is RM10,000.

Counsel Nurul Jannah Abdul Rahman told the court that Rosmi previously worked as a part-time runner and is divorced.

Judge Zaman Mohd Noor set bail at RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Oct 28 for case management and document submission.
