Thousands demonstrate against Guan Eng in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: More than 5,000 youths flooded the famous Gurney Drive area here demanding that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng relinquish his seat in light of the graft charges levelled against him.

They voiced their dissatisfaction with Lim’s administration and how he has placed Penang in a bad light for being the state’s first chief minister to face graft charges.

They also called on all young people not to vote for Lim in the next general election. Penang Umno Youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim said when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was implicated in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversy, Lim had been at the forefront in calling for him to take leave.

“Today, he faces graft charges. Why is he not relinquishing his position? “We demand for him to step down immediately,” he said to loud cheers from those present.

Participants also urged police not to grant a permit for the planned Bersih gathering next month. They vowed that if a permit is granted, they would not hesitate to come face-to-face with the Bersih protestors.
