KLANG: It is unlikely that a by-election will be called for the Sungai Air Tawar state seat following the death of incumbent assemblyman Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik (pic).

This is because more than three years have passed since the current Selangor State Legislature first convened after the 2013 general election.

This means the seat would remain vacant until the 14th general election, which was expected to be held soon.

Kamarol Zaki, 57, who was the Sabak Bernam Umno division deputy chief, was found dead at his home in Kampung Sungai Air Tawar at about 9am.

He was believed to have died after suffering a heart attack late Monday night.

According to sources, his aides went in search of the assemblyman at his home after he did not turn-up for an 8am event at Kampung Sekendi and did not answer their phone calls.

Kamarol Zaki’s aides had to break open the front door as he was alone at home.

His wife Rossimah Abas was visiting their eldest son Mohd Nasir, 32, at his home in Puncak Alam.

Sungai Burong assemblyman and Kamarol Zaki’s Umno counterpart, Datuk Shamsudin Lias, said the deceased was known to suffer from hypertension.

“There were instances, during the state assembly meetings, when he had to go and see a doctor after his blood pressure shot-up,” said Shamsudin.

However, Shamsudin, said no one had expected his untimely death.

Shamsudin added that he last met Kamarol Zaki a few days ago.

Kamarol Zaki was buried at the Sg Air Tawar Muslim cemetery after Asar prayers.

He leaves behind wives Rossimah and Faridah Abdul Jalil as well as four sons.

In an immediate response, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said Kamarol Zaki’s service to the state in his capacity as an assemblyman would be remembered and appreciated.-thestar
