KOTA TINGGI: An Indian national was sentenced to a year’s jail for possessing about 100 pictures and videos of child pornography on his mobile phone.
Sundry shop worker Sulaiman Valiyapeedika Mudakkundil, 37, pleaded guilty when the charge was read out in Tamil at a magistrate’s court here yesterday.
The father of two was charged with possessing images related to child pornography on his mobile phone on Jan 3.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of three years’ jail or fine or both.
In mitigation, Sulaiman asked the court for a fine and claimed that the images were sent to him via WhatsApp.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaila Shafiuddin urged the court to mete a reasonable sentence by taking into account the interest of the public.
Magistrate Mazana Sinin sentenced the man to 12 months in jail from the date of remand.-thestar
