KOTA KINABALU: Brunei police is seeking to set up a fast information-sharing system with their Malaysian counterparts in tackling crime along the borders.

Its police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Jammy Muhd Shah Al Islam (pic) said such a system was crucial due to the Sultanate’s geographical location of being sandwiched between Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the setting up of such a system was among matters that was discussed in his meeting with Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din here on Monday.

“We need a close working relationship with Malaysian police to rapidly tackle crimes that could occur along our borders,” Mohd Jammy added.

He said a conducive policy for Bruneians and Malaysians to travel with more security and safety was also discussed.

“Such a policy is necessary as Sabah is a popular destination for Bruneians,” Mohd Jammy added.

Ramli said other matters raised at the meeting were the setting up of an electronic information-sharing platform involving both police forces, border security matters and ways to tackle incidents such as car thefts and human trafficking.-thestar
