Five linked to kidnapping of housewife admit overstaying, working illegally

JOHOR BARU: Four Vietnamese women and an Indonesian man linked to the kidnapping of a housewife in Kulai pleaded guilty in the magistrate’s court here for overstaying in the country and working without a permit.

The four women were sentenced to two months’ jail and fined RM10,000 in default of 12 months in jail.

The women Vo Thai Minh Tam, 26, Nguyen Thai Thu Thao, 22, Nguyen Thi Suong, 19, and Nguyen Thu Nga, 19, committed the offence at an apartment at Jalan Serantau at around 6am on March 13.

They admitted to overstaying for more than three to 10 months than permitted since entering the country last year.

They were separately charged under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act.

They were among 17 suspects arrested to assist in investigations into the kidnapping of the 44-year-old woman from her home in Bandar Putra Kulai, who was subsequently held captive for 27-days on a farm in Batam.

In the same courtroom, Indonesian fruit stall worker Fuad Lutfi Hakim, 26, also one of the suspects nabbed in the kidnapping case, was charged with working without a valid permit.

Fuad, who held a valid social visit pass, was charged under Section 39(B) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for breaching the terms of his visit to the country.

He pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd, who sentenced him to a fine of RM1,000 in default of six months’ imprisonment.

DPP Muhammad Mohd Nasir prosecuted the case while the accused were not represented.-thestar
