More than 1,000 CCTVs along MRT lines

A TOTAL of 1,082 CCTVs will be set up along the MRT lines to improve security and prevent terrorist attacks, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Othman Aziz said an allocation of RM360mil has been set aside to boost infrastructure, safety and security in times of emergency for the MRT project.

“Prasarana as the service operator of MRT has allocated RM6.5mil per year to manage the safety aspect of MRT,” he told Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) during question time.

Nurul Izzah had asked the Finance Ministry to release the budget allocation for the safety aspect of the MRT.

Othman said Prasarana has also received full co-operation from the police and has employed 91 security personnel to protect passengers and its assets across the MRT line consisting of 12 stations and one depot.

He said there will be an additional 126 guards following the opening of the second phase of the MRT from Sungai Buloh to Kajang in July.

The 51km stretch will then include a total of 31 stations.-thestar
