Rahman Dahlan to Guan Eng: Our debate called off because of your graft charges

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic) said his proposed debate with Lim Guan Eng was cancelled over the Penang Chief Minister’s corruption charges.

In a series of tweets Thursday, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit retorted to being described as a chicken by Lim.

“Unlike LGE, Nazri & Dr M arenot under investigations over their debate topics. I can’t believe LGE doesn’t understand this crucial difference,” he said, referring to the proposed debate between Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on political and economic issues.

“Our planned debate was stopped on the advice of the PDRM. Events showed that this was the right decision. Shortly later, Lim was charged with 2 counts of corruption!” read his tweets.

Abdul Rahman added that Lim now claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act is unconstitutional, referring to Lim’s motion on Section 62 of the Act.

He questioned why Lim was delaying the trial with this move, adding that he thought Lim would welcome clearing his name as soon as possible.

Earlier on Thursday, Lim had called Nazri brave for remaining determined to debate Dr Mahathir.

Lim said Nazri’s tenacity was in contrast with Abdul Rahman, who he labelled a chicken for cancelling their proposed public debate last year.

“LGE forgot I had faced off with Tony Pua, Rafizi, Sivarasah, Mujaheed, Yusmadi, Tian Chua many times publicly & I debated oppo in parlimen!” tweeted Abdul Rahman, referring to a number of Opposition politicians.

In April last year, Abdul Rahman had challenged Lim to a public debate over controversies and corruption allegations surrounding property issues in Penang.

He later called it off on the insistence of the MACC and the Inspector-General of Police.-thestar
