Daughter Files Police Report Over Elderly Father Being ‘Attacked’ By E-Scooter Rider

SINGAPORE – The daughter of a 69-year-old man has lodged a police report against an e-scooter rider who allegedly hit her father.

She is also appealing to the public to help nab the culprit.

According to Facebook user Hui Ying, her father was crossing the road on Thursday (May 18) night at about 9.30pm when a man on an e-scooter allegedly assaulted him.

She said the rider had been speeding and the plastic bag her father held “accidentally brushed the man on his helmet”.

The rider then stopped and allegedly assaulted her father, and two passers-by are said to have rushed to his aid.

The rider fled when Hui Ying’s father said he was going to call the police.

The injuries he allegedly received include punches to his chest and face, cuts to his left eye and his lips and several bruises.

Hui Ying said her father was in hospital from his injuries and a heart attack that he suffered after the alleged assault.

She said in her post that she had made a police report.

The police on Saturday (May 20) told The Straits Times that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt along Hougang Avenue 7 at 9.26pm on Thursday.

A 69-year-old man was conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, said the police, and police investigations are ongoing.

ST understands that the culprit is still at large.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for ambulance assistance at Block 316 Hougang Avenue 7 at about 10pm that day. It took a patient, who had bruises on his lips, to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

ST has reached out to Hui Ying for more information. – The Straits Times /ANN
