Hasan Malek: Govt to take action against those who raise prices unfairly

PETALING JAYA: Swift action will be taken against businesses which unfairly raise the prices of goods and services, said Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek.

He urged consumers who encountered unfair profiteering to call the ministry hotline at 1-800-886-800, or email in to [email protected].

“Consumers must report in with the exact facts so we can act immediately. I am most concerned about unfairly priced food production costs and related businesses like restaurants, as there should be no more than a 0.1% price increase,” he told The Star Online on Tuesday.

He said that if any quarters were caught unfairly pricing items, they could be charged under laws such as the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010.

“I have told them not to raise prices unfairly. If they do not listen to the Ministry, we will act.”
