back to class

JITRA: THE Works Ministry has allocated RM3 million to organise Road Marking Technology and Effective Resurfacing Course for Class F contractors nationwide for this year.

Its deputy minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirin said the ministry had set a target to organise 300 similar courses in the country and attracting some 21,000 Class F contractors.

“The course will be organised by the ministry’s Contractor Service Centre and we are targeting some 21,000 contractors to attend the courses by the end of this year.

“This courses will enable contractors to increase their knowledge and keep abreast of the latest technology and methods of road maintenance,” she said after launching the first course in Kedah at the Public Works office in Kubang Pasu recently.

Rosnah said in Kedah alone, there were 3,471 registered contractors from class G1 to G7, out of whom 1,300 of them were women.

She added that the ministry had allocated RM640 million for maintenance of Federal roads totalling 8,000km long nationwide.

She said the ministry had set aside RM23.3 million for the maintenance and upgrading works of 1,555km of Federal roads in Kedah.

She said this was in line with the government’s plan to ensure that Malaysian roads are safe and comfortable to drive on.
