WIN WIN: Over 500 families will benefit from the redevelopment of Razak Mansion

KUALA LUMPUR: RESIDENTS of the four-storey Razak Mansion flats in Jalan Sungei Besi, which is slated for redevelopment, are happy with initiative which had been mooted by the government.

The residents thanked the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for initiating the 1Razak Mansion project, which is expected to complete in three years’ time.

Najib officiated at the project’s ground breaking ceremony on Monday. The project will see the development of three 18-storey blocks, with three floors of parking space, surau and playground.

The new flats will be bigger and equipped with facilities such as two air-conditioned units and kitchen cabinets. The existing units, which are either one-bedroom (37.07sq m) or two-bedroom (46.82sq m), will be replaced with 74.32 sq m, three-bedroom or two-bathroom units. Each unit also comes with a parking lot.

The project, which is expected to benefit 557 families, will be developed by Impianika Development Sdn Bhd at a cost of RM150 million.

Resident M. Saravanan Raja, 48, who inherited his flat from his father was grateful to get a new home.

“Even though our present home is big enough for us, we can always do with a bigger place. I have two children and it will be more comfortable living in a larger space,” he said.

Resident Yuen Ngai Mein, 20, is looking forward to moving into her new apartment. She hopes the new unit will be better than the one she is living in right now.

“The flat I live in now is old and and there is not much privacy as outsiders can peep into my unit.

“I’m looking forward to moving into the new apartment in three years’ time. I hope to enjoy the view as I have been allocated a unit on the 20th floor,” she said.

Resident Ngow Suit Lan, 64, is thankful that the developer has given priority to the disabled and senior citizens in the allocation of units on the lower levels. “I’m taking care of my 83-year-old mother who is disabled and getting a unit on the fourth floor will help us,” she said.

Resident Puryadi Hamjah, 52, said that he was excited about the redevelopment. “This place has been in a deplorable state for many years and we are happy that the area will be redeveloped. We are looking forward to moving into our new air-conditioned unit,” he said.

Puryadi was also pleased that the new apartment will be close to his present home. “My children go to school here and the public transport is fine. It’s good that we will not need to move too far away,” he said.
