Lawyer suffocates in attempt to rescue puppies from metre-deep hole

KOTA KINABALU: A 28-year-old lawyer who went to rescue a little of puppies suffocated and died inside a hole in the ground near his house in Kg Pisang Babah in Penampang.

Jay Ferrer Jeffrey Linjungan (pic) was found by a family member stuck inside a metre deep hole with his legs protruding outside the hole with the entrance width about 45cm (18 inches).

He was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on arrival at 1pm on Wednesday.

Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Ratan Kumar Singh said Thursday that Jay was trying to rescue a litter of puppies from the hole when he apparently got stuck inside before suffocating.

He said Jay managed to pull out two puppies from the hole and was attempting to take the third puppy out when he got into trouble.

His brother had returned home at about 11am and pulled him out of the hole and rushed him to the hospital.

“We do not suspect any foul play, it is a case of misadventure,’’ Ratan added.

Jay, who was admitted to the Sabah Bar in Oct 2011 and worked at a local firm in Kota Kinabalu, would be buried at Mohingkidon Burial Ground at Kampung Nambazan in Penampang on Friday after a requiem mass at St Michael Church.
