‘Register businesses for long-term benefits’

IPOH: Local entrepreneurs have been urged to register their businesses with the Companies Commission of Malaysia for the benefit of their long-term business prospects.

State Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Datuk Nizar Zakaria said that registration with the commission would open up more business opportunities for the entrepreneurs.

“Businesses that are registered with the commission have an advantage as they will be able to acquire licences and expansion opportunities more easily.

“To be registered, these businesses will have to adhere to strict accounting regulations, which will make them a more trustworthy proposition for local authorities and other businesses who want to venture with them,” said Nizar here recently.

He said that many entrepreneurs who were starting businesses took the registration for granted.

“Some do not want to register because their preferred business name has already been taken.

“This is a mistake. They are not thinking of the long-term benefits. By registering they will be able to create a brand for themselves,” said Nizar, who spoke to reporters after attending the Baraqah carnival at the Ipoh stadium here recently.

Nizar spent the afternoon visiting more than 60 stalls at the carnival that offered a diverse array of products, including furniture, clothes, books, medical cards, insurance, and food and drink products.

The event was jointly organised by Romeo Zulu Bhd and the Ashby Road Flats Residents’ Association.

After sampling the products, Nizar advised the participants to choose their marketing strategies creatively as their products were already of high quality.

He noted that this would narrow the competitive gap between the entrepreneurs’ products and similar items marketed in franchises and large-scale businesses.

“The products on show here have the same quality as their more well-known counterparts but lose out when it comes to marketing.

“If they want to compete, local businessmen must concentrate on making the packaging of their products more attractive,” said Nizar. By Loghun Kumaran
