KUALA LUMPUR: A PROMISING solution for effective dengue control will be available in the market soon.

Entogenex Industries Sdn Bhd executive chairman Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Ja’afar said the larvacide, Mousticide, was 200 times more effective than any other larvacide and would successfully tackle the alarming rise in dengue cases and deaths in the country.

“Larvaciding is the way forward for effective and sustainable mosquito control.

“It kills the larvae before they become adult mosquitoes which can spread dengue,” he said here yesterday.

“All one needs to do is to drop a pinch of Mousticide, with the active ingredient coated onto dry rice husk, into water-retaining containers, such as pots, ponds and drains to eradicate the problem at the source.”

Tunku Naquiyuddin said the formula used non-toxic ingredients that were safe for humans as well as animals and plants, while effectively killing mosquito larvae.

Mousticide’s function, he said, was to stop the release of the
crucial digestive enzyme, trypsin, in mosquito larvae.

“Without trypsin, the digestive system cannot function and the mosquito larvae will starve to death.

“This will occur within one
hour after using the larvacide, Mousticide.”

The Health Ministry had earlier revealed that the state of dengue in the country had reached an endemic level as cases continue to rise.

As of last Saturday, there were 46,681 cases, a 246 per cent increase from the previous year in the same period, starting from January.

A total of 87 people have died from the disease, marking a
222 per cent increase from the same period last year.

Tunku Naquiyuddin said a letter and proposal had been sent to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is heading the government’s special task force on dengue.

The product is a collaboration with the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti).
