MH17: Malaysia passed all 117 DNA samples of victims relatives to Dutch police

AMSTERDAM: Kuala Lumpur has passed to the Dutch government 117 DNA samples taken from relatives of Malaysians who died in the MH17 tragedy.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said samples of two non-citizens who had Malaysian links, were also retrieved and sent over.

The ministry’s forensics team had also secured and handed over to the Dutch-led investigation team the dental records of the cabin crew.

However, his forensics team had not been able to retrieve the dental records of all the Malaysian passengers.

“We are hoping that the conclusive DNA records that we have handed over to the Netherlands will help expedite the indentification process of Malaysians and ultimately the repatriation of the bodies.

“The process to collect DNA samples from the victims’ immediate family members was smooth.

“However there were three cases where the whole family perished.. so we had to collect samples from their relatives,” Dr Subramaniam said adding that at least two samples were collected for each victim.

Other primary data that had been passed on to the investigation team include the Malaysian victims’ fingerprint records, sourced from the National Registration Department.

All the records and data were uploaded on a secure platform provided by Interpol, which is also assisting the team.
