Najib’s idea bears fruit with opening of agrobazaar

pm

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong are set for a historic launch of the Malaysia Agrobazaar in Singapore today.

An idea mooted by Najib, and announced during the tabling of Budget 2014, the Federal Agricultural and Marketing Authority’s (Fama) agrobazaar in the island republic will be a launching pad for Malaysia’s quest to promote local fruits and agro-based products globally.

With a new concept “Fruit, Grocery, Restaurant” which is expanding in Singapore and world markets, the agrobazaar focuses on premium tropical fruits and fruit-based products.

It also looks at sale of agro-based products and food and beverage services.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob described the event as a testimony of the excellent ties between the two neighbours, which he said was at an “all-time high”.

He said the meeting of the prime ministers would also enable them “to update each other on the progress of the relations between the two countries.”

Both leaders last met during the Leaders’ Retreat in Putrajaya in April. — Bernama
