PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has set Sept 25 as the date for the (N1) Pengkalan Kubor by-election.

Nomination day is on 13 Sept.

The advance voting process will be carried out on 21 Sept, EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof (pic) confirmed in a press conference here on Friday.

The state seat in Kelantan was left vacant after its assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar, from Barisan Nasional, passed away on Aug 20.

Noor Zahidi, 57, passed away while seeking treatment for liver cancer in Guanngzhou, China.

He was the state assemblyman for the constituency for three terms and Tumpat Umno division chairman for four terms.
In the May 5 polls, Noor Zahidi beat PKR candidate Saharun Ibrahim and Independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary with a 1,736 vote majority.
