GEORGE TOWN: Penang executive councillor in-charge of the outlawed Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS), Phee Boon Poh was arrested at 6.15pm.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said Phee, including 156 PPS members were investigated under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966.

Phee who is the state Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman was arrested when he went to the Northeast district police headquarters here to give his statement.

The federal government had stressed that it will not allow any state to have its own “standing army or police” under the pretext of providing welfare or security to the public.

PPS was akin to a standing army or police and should be disbanded.
