MBI wants RM250 fine per day on illegal pig farmers

IPOH: The prosecution section of the Ipoh City Hall (MBI) will apply to the court to impose a compound of RM250 per day on illegal pig farmers who refused to relocate their pig farms, said Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim.
He said the application was being made because the illegal pig farmers had refused to relocate their businesses despite having pleaded guilty and paying a fine of RM2,000 after their cases were heard in court.

“As the the fine was too small… they are willing to pay the fine and continue to operate their farm without the necessary licence.
“The RM250 per day compound will be calculated from the day they were sentenced by the court earlier…and if it is one year, the compound will be calculated based on 365 days without any exemption,” he said after meeting residents of a housing project at Batu 10, Chepor, here today.

He said the pig farmers were prepared to pay the fine as the profit from the business was lucrative.

“Tentatively, five pig farmers will be charged in court in June,” he said. — Bernama
