AUXILIARY POLICE TO BE SCRUTINISED

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) — The standard operating procedure (SOP) on civilian detainment by auxiliary police will be among those to be scrutinised in the investigations into the alleged assault of a Bernama photographer by auxiliary policemen two days ago.

Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters Public Relations Officer ASP Suffian Sulaiman said police would investigate all aspects of the case, including the SOP, to find the main cause of the incident.

“We are investigating the matter thoroughly. I was told by the Cheras Police Chief that no actions or arrests have been made, so we will look into an auxiliary policeman”s jurisdiction,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

In the incident, Hairul Nizam Baharin, 37, claimed that he was beaten up by auxiliary policemen after he finished taking pictures of the newly opened Integrated South-Bandar Tasik Selatan Transport Terminal (TBS-BTS) on Sunday.

Before he left the premises, the policemen had asked him to stop his motorcycle to which he declined as he was unsure of their intentions.

Suffian said police would also look into whether the victim was detained in their location of supervision and the power of auxiliary policemen on duty.

“The SOP for auxiliary policemen and a normal policeman is different. Give us space to investigate this case,” he said.
