PINCER the most sophisticated innovation centre in the country

In its pursuit to be the K-economy hub of the country, Perak have moved another step in the ICT field with the setting up of the Perak Innovation and Creative Resource Centre (PINCER) at Meru Raya.

To be fully operational in February, in its initial stages, the RM20 million PINCER will provide studio services for creative content work, industrial design and teaching facilities, complete with a mini theatre, classrooms and a gallery.

The comprehensively equipped creative content studio is motion capture capable as it is fitted with the industry standard OptiTrack Flex V100 camera sets for full body motion capture and facial motion capture with motion builder real-time 3D character animation and motion editing software for data cleanup.

Motion capture is not only used for animation in films and game production, but also for collection of accurate 3D data for simulation and application in sport performance analysis, medical applications, engineering and scientific research. Apart from the visual creative content, the centre is also fully equipped for creating and editing audio elements, integrated in a post-production studio setup. PINCER’s multi track audio studio provides specialised services in music production, voice over recording, multimedia recording and other audio audio services.

PINCER is also the home for the largest render farm in the country that will be managed by the Sun Grid Engine distributed resource management through Tiger Technology MetaSAN and MetaLAN systems. This setup helps highly detailed and complex renderings to be churned out effortlessly through the render farm’s cluster of computers as opposed to a single output device.

The centre could also take on solid modelling and rapid prototyping work at its innovation design studio as it is equipped with a 3D scanner that captures objects in full colour with multi-laser precision.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir who visited PINCER this morning, was impressed by the centre’s setup and hopes it will be another impetus to push Perak to become a k-economy state.

“Not only I was impressed by the high tech equipment used at the centre, but I was told that about a week ago, a delegation from Japan was totally awe struck and described PINCER’s potential performance as a class on its own,” Dr. Zambry told reporters at a media conference held at nearby Meru Raya BioD development after visiting the centre.

Dr. Zambry’s visit marked the soft launch of PINCER that is owned by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk), managed by Perak E-Organisation Sdn. Bhd., K-Perak INC Corp. as the coordinating body, and is sponsored by the the Ministry of Finance Malaysia and PKNPk.
